To Live of Love

To live of love is to sail afar and bring both peace and joy where'er I be. O Pilot blest! Love is my guiding star; in every soul I meet, Thyself I see. Safe sail I on, through wind or rain or ice; love urges me, love conquers every gale. High on my mast behold is my device: 'By love I sail!' - st. therese

das Herz zu Hause

Across the Danube from the Schwedenplatz (the 1st district of Vienna), in the heart of the city is Leopoldstadt {area II below}, Vienna's second district. It is a relatively uninteresting, middle/low class residential neighborhood, one time the home of Sigmund Freud, the Strauss family, and Gustav Mahler, before they moved up in the world and into more wealthy areas of Vienna.

{map of vienna}

It is the home of many Jewish Austrians and has earned the nickname Mazzesinsel (Matzoh Island), aka the Jewish quarter.

It is the home of the Wiener Prater: a large public park containing the famous Wiener Riesenrad {see picture}, one of the earliest ferris wheels (erected in 1897) and one of Vienna's most popular tourist attractions.

It is the home of the Augarten, another public park which contains the oldest Baroque garden in the city, as well as the Palais Augarten {see picture}, the boarding school and home of the Wiener Sangerknaben (Vienna Boy's Choir)

It is the home of Mexico Square where the beautiful Gedachtniskirche is located...also known as Franz-von-Assisi Kirche (Church of St. Francis of Assisi!)

It is the home to a few museums, theaters, and outdoor cinemas for film festivals

and now,
it is the home of das Herz zu Hause in Wien.
{see red dot in first picture}

We will be founding the Heart's Home in an apartment in an old presbytery. We will be connected with Sankt Josef Kirche {see picture} is a beautiful Baroque church. It was a Carmelite Church {Karmeliterkirche} until 1783 when it became the parish Church of St. Josef {Pfarrkirche St. Josef}. Our neighbors are a new religious community called "The Little Sisters of the Lamb" {Gemeinschaft der Schwestern vom Lamm}. Fr. Jacques has already met them and says they are very friendly and are looking forward to helping us get settled before they themselves move North of Vienna. And most exciting!! The parish has a KINDERGARTEN (an authentic german word!) with a bunch of little austrian kids between 3 and 6 years old! {maybe I can learn some deutsch with them!}.

I have no idea of the details of where exactly
the apartment is in relation to the church or what the apartment is like, but just to know the address and that we will be so close to a church (a former Carmelite Church no less) is such a delight!
